It is time for an immigration policy that permits temporary guest workers to fill jobs Americans will not take, that rejects amnesty, that tells us who is entering and leaving our country, and that closes the border to drug dealers and terrorists.

Historically, Microsoft has trod carefully when it comes to crackdowns, particularly in emerging markets. Though clearly eyeing growth, the company has not wanted to push too hard in countries where piracy is rampant, and thereby force customers toward Linux. Also, some say that by threatening to withhold security updates, Microsoft is making the entire Internet less secure, harming legitimate customers as well.

Bad, Bad! U.S....

The president has not declared war against Iran. But he has declared hostility...Syria was pointedly put on notice, as if a junior member of the "axis of evil" club.

Still, when John Kerry said Sunday morning that we must not "overhype this election" he was talking to the wrong people. He should've been talking to Egyptian stock brokers, who don't seem to have gotten the message that the Iraqi election is no big deal.

Bush has been talking about restructuring Social Security for 27 years, and a top adviser, Peter Wehner, has suggested that if Bush succeeds and private investment accounts are created for younger workers, Democrats would be seen increasingly as "the party of the past" and the nation's political landscape would be transformed.

Furthermore, it is very likely that an independent, sovereign Iraq would try to take its natural place as a leading state in the Arab world, maybe the leading state. And you know that’s something that goes back to biblical times.

Bush's sense of urgency is nothing but a political tactic. SS does have its problems, but nothing on the scale of the hype ole GW has created.
I do, however, agree with privatizing SS. It will allow citizens to retain private ownership of their money and invest it more aggressively. The current treasury rates associated with SS barely protect against inflation.
The problem with privatizing SS is that either taxes go up, benefits go down, or the gov't spends lots (lots and lots) of money getting the program going.
GW will bankrupt this country if it's the last thing he does.

well of course its a political tactic. whats the harm in that? if he doesnt create a sense of urgency nothing will get done and i would much rather have privatized social security thats not financially sound than socialistic social security. i posted the USA Today article because it explains bush's intentions. i think its pretty right on. its political because it solidifies the republican hold for decades to come and it makes sense because the free market makes sense. the article did state the following:

"He gave some details about how private accounts would work, but his advisers acknowledge that they would not solve Social Security's financial problems. Bush repeated his vow that he won't raise taxes and said for the first time that he'll consider limiting benefits for the rich, changing the way benefits are calculated, raising the retirement age and discouraging early collection of benefits."

sounds good to me...

independent analysts (if you can stand the sound of their commentary) have said that basically everything that bush said about social security in his state of the union speech was right on except the hype about bankruptcy in several decades (the program would just drastically cut benefits rather than go bankrupt, but thats kind of common sense)

something needs to get done. if theres any chance of bush bankrupting the country by revamping social security, any president that would try to do it down the road has a would have a much greater chance.
