California Dreams

What is the problem? California's soft utopian dreams outdistanced hard reality. In a metaphorical sense, we were homeowners who haggled over the sheen on our beautiful wood floors, but had no inkling of the rotting foundation out of sight beneath the house. Sophisticates bickered over the artistic design of a new span of the Bay Bridge but were bored by their underlings' warnings of how to pay or build it. Upscale environmentalists in water-hungry San Francisco envision tearing down Hetch Hetchy Dam to re-create another Yosemite Valley—without a serious plan of how to replace its life-giving water supply.

As we expected, the left has not taken the news presented on our site well. A pro-Islamic jihad writer for Alex Cockburn’s CounterPunch regards it naturally as “David Horowitz’s Smear Portal” and objects to our linking noble champions of social justice like himself with the “resisters” in the Sunni triangle he supports.

From TFA:
"...Moore's anti-American propaganda piece, Farenheit 9/11"
OK, now, Bryan knows I have a hard liberal streak in me. But I really, honestly do not believe that Farenheit 9/11 is anti-American. America is founded on the belief that if something is not working to the citizens' good and/or benefit then it is up to US the CITIZENS to voice their opinion and change it. Given that, Michael Moore IS a citizen of the US, no matter how badly you want him not to be. His ideas and strategies may be completely wrong, but at least he is doing his citizen's duty of speaking up and trying to change what he finds to be wrong with America. He is not anti-American, he is more American than the millions of lard-o Joes sitting in front of SpikeTV (myself included) doing nothing to better the American society or government. Good 'ole Mikey's tactic may be dirty and his ideals F'ed up, but at least give him some credit for stepping up to the plate.
Bryan, you should make a film about the Liberal run media, or how we should support the war in Iraq. At any rate, any one of us could at least write a letter to our congress man about an issue that peeves us.

anybody can "step up to the plate" and lie. i havent seen his latest flick but i have read the text of many scenes. i myself, in my own mediocre news searches have uncovered blatant lies in his movie. finding something wrong and correcting it all based on a desire and love of the truth is truly american i would say. i dont think it takes much to twist facts to push a separate reality that fits well with ones agenda. when done to smear the nation's president i do think it could be labeled anti-american. however, my opinion of him is based more upon other actions of his. ie, his lies in "bowling for columbine" and particularly calling terrorists minutemen which i find especially sickening and "anti-american."
